Tomos Watkin Website Redesign

Check out the new website

The Brief

We were approached by Tomos Watkin to help reposition the brand into the craft ale scene; the current brand identity was outdated and heavily associated with traditional ale. With plans to launch a new series of craft-focused ale, Tomos Watkin needed to re-evaluate their brand positioning and a new website to promote to a new target audience.

The website needed to have some new core features. As with all brewery websites, we needed to implement an age limit, restricting access to underage users, and a section to display individual details and tasting notes on both the traditional and new craft ranges.

We also needed to design an area where users can find out more information on the Tomos Watkin Drink & Dine Guide and create an e-commerce system allowing users to purchase all available beverages from the online store.

What we did

By taking inspiration from the loose and fun craft ale artwork, we created a series of sketched typography headlines utilising bright colours to differentiate the traditional and the craft ales throughout the website.

Tomos Watkin are still heavily involved in the traditional ale market, so it was important that we displayed the importance of the company’s heritage throughout.

A great way to show the heritage of the company and engage visitors was through a short film. We shot three films of varying length, highlighting the care and craftsmanship that goes into every drop of ale, beer and cider that Tomos Watkin produce.

We had multiple shoots within the brewery and at local pubs to show all aspects of the journey of Tomos Watkin beverages.

The video was aptly named The Birth of an Ale.

The photography on the old website was outdated and tired. We arranged for photographs of each product to be taken in a professional studio so that they could look their best both on the online shop and in marketing material.
